So. I was introduced to baking via bread.
That’s where I feel most at home.
Cakes, as much as I love them, are a more foreign craft. Functionally, no problem. Buttercream? Easy. Cake? Heck yes.
….frosting them….not so much. That being said I am leaping at opportunities to practice!
Leading us to Alex and Michelle’s paisley themed 21st birthday cake.
I like to keep old buttercreams around for practicing and ended up doodling paisley patterns for a while. Not sure why, but they seemed cute and I went with it.
Their cake ended up being a chocolate chunk cake with strawberry filling and chocolate buttercream. Why? Because it sounded darn good.
It was a lot of fun to play and practice and see progress with my writing, which a year a go was not something to share on the internet. Bleh.
Cakes are finally starting to be fun and less of a source of overwhelming anxiety. It seems like a fun flex of creative muscle instead of a giant, insurmountable task.
Which is good because anxious cake does not sound tasty, even if there’s chocolate involved.
